Since September 2025, prof. Ing. Jozef Štefko, CSc. has started working at the Department of Building Engineering and Urban Planning at the Faculty of Civil Engineering, University of Žilina. He is an expert in wooden building structures, particularly regarding energy efficiency, sustainable development and building physics. He brings valuable experience and enthusiasm to our team, which will help us achieve common goals in the development of the wooden buildings focus within the new Building Engineering – Wood Structures study programme. We will collaborate with him, as well as with the new assistant professor Ing. Michal Poljak, PhD., on interesting projects.

We look forward to the innovative perspectives and ideas that both will certainly bring to our department.

Since July 2025, doc. Ing. Radoslav Ponechal, PhD. has become the new head of the Department of Building Engineering and Urban Planning at the Faculty of Civil Engineering, University of Žilina. He had previously served for several years as the head of the department’s laboratories. Ing. Peter Juráš, PhD. was appointed as the vice-head of the department and Ing. Marek Bartko, PhD. assumed the position of department administrator.

The members of the department also want to take this opportunity to express their deep respect and gratitude to prof. Ing. Pavol Ďurica, CSc. for his exemplary dedication in building up the department and the Building Engineering study programme at the Faculty of Civil Engineering, University of Žilina.
